Last week, I came down with another sinus infection. The dust here is driving my allergies crazy, and I have been getting these darn infections about once a month. This last one knocked me out and I had to miss a day of work mid-week. I hate missing work and not being there with the kiddos... plus it throws off the routine in the classroom. Next week is a three-day week, as we have two days of student-led conferences. It should be fun to see the kids 'teaching' their parents about what they do in school! They are all so excited about the Daily 5 program we use for literacy in our classroom. Last week I did some alphabet assessments with the kids and it made my day to see their progress. One student started out the year recognizing only 4 letters. Now, he knows 25 letters! Sometimes I can't believe they are the same kids that started at the beginning of the year!
In other news, I am really looking forward to my spring break plans of visiting Sri Lanka! I can't wait to relax on the beach and hopefully take a trip to the Yala Reserve and see some elephants, also. This year has gone by so fast! Only 4 weeks of school left until spring break and then we have 8 weeks of school before the end of the year.... I'm flying to Frankfurt on June 17th and am going to take the train to Heidelberg and Munich, before heading to Austria. In Austria, I'm going to Salzburg where I will definitely be nerding out and taking the "Sound of Music" tour!!! To end the trip, I'll be in Vienna for a few days and will hopefully be meeting up with a friend from ships who lives there. I just bought a ticket to fly from Vienna to Frankfurt for $78... A short flight is cheaper than a 10-hour train ride.... The last day of the trip, I'll probably meet up with my friend I teach with and bum around Frankfurt before flying home to Oregon on July 1st. I am really looking forward to traveling more! Now, I'll have to start planning where to go next year for my vacations! We have one in October and an extra week off at the end of February next year... Hmmmm... Jordan? Indonesia? Thailand? Oh, the possibilities!
