Tomorrow is the first day of school for the kiddos! I am very excited! Today we had time to work in our classrooms while parents had the chance to walk around and meet us. I met about six of my students and their families. The kids immediately went to the play area with blocks, dolls and kitchen toys. I wish I had paint in my classroom for tomorrow, but the supply order hasn't come in. (Surprise... reminds me of ships again!) My room is completely ready for the kids and I will post pictures tomorrow after school. It looks pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!
Since the last blog entry, I went to the Avenues (big mall) a few more times to help people get situated (and there's not a whole lot else to do in this heat). I also was able to take a short trip to the Heritage Souk, which is the oldest in Kuwait. It was a huge open air market with stalls all around. Pretty neat. Here's a picture of the city, a funny sign, some tea kettles and the nice butcher we met. :)
This week at school is only three days and on Thursday (like the Friday of the week) we are having a BBQ at the apartments for all of the teachers. On Friday, I plan to sleep in and recover, then get going on planning next week. Although, my team leader has already planned it all, so I just need to make small changes to it. The next few days we have to stay late at school for faculty meetings and setting up our bank accounts/insurance. Next week on Sunday (like Monday) all of us new teachers will miss school to get medical tests done AGAIN. It's not ideal to miss the first day of the first full week of school, but what can you do?
I will update this tomorrow after I get home from my first day of teaching KG1! I am so excited, I'm not sure how I'll sleep tonight.... Lots of coffee tomorrow morning, I think!
Cheers,
Megan
